As assignments go this one in the IRA stronghold of South Armagh was a little different. I was with Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and husband Denis while they waited for a taxi to arrive. The taxi was a British army helicopter with orders to whisk them back to Belfast castle, while the waiting room was a makeshift barracks corridor, dark, narrow and uninviting. It was also a spectacular target for the real power in the area. Luckily for all “Mum” had been the word about the flash visit.

It’s a strange thing to make an assessment of one such as Maggie Thatcher. All the rumours, backbiting, back stabbing skulduggery, that mars political life was just not present on the crisp morning she visited the front line troops. It was not an easy place to secure for such a high profile figure. The IRA’s very successful 2^nd Battalion dominated the area and the killing tally. They eventually scored over 160 security officers to a loss of four of their own in active combat service. 

Mrs Thatcher would need to be very calm and very cool to for her and Denis to feel OK in the camp.

And that’s how it was for the 10 minutes we shared in the corridor. I was pleasantly surprised how much she and Denis relaxed with us to make small talk and present her cultured manner. I suppose behind very strong front person is just another human, just like the rest of us.

Hard to take in that here was the leader of “the British occupation in Ireland,”  the Iron Lady herself having a bit of banter with a couple of media people deep in IRA territory while a late helicopter ride made its way over the rolling hills for a pick-up.

Denis joked and was genuinely funny. Mrs Thatcher shuffled through her handbag for a tissue. We Patricks just tried to the Irish thing. Express restrained recognition for celebrity status. I mean she's just a Prime Minister, right!

Light information was exchanged about the things everyone does at home, the office, or the pub, or in this case, a narrow corridor of power locked at both ends. They soon said goodbye, using first names. Just another day in the Irish/UK Ulster conflict. 

EU Crisis: Policy Austerity Gets a Downgrade; London Meets Berlin.

 The Troika’s (EC, ECB and IMF) much critiqued austerity programme is grinding to a halt. Cyprus buckles painfully under the terms of its bailout while peripheral sinners Ireland and Portugal toughen resistance to repayment schedules.

It was all so predictable, where did Federal Brussels think it was taking us. While the sins of the over spenders, (of which there are many) need to be washed and cleansed, it is clear the problem embraces the wider business model. And, not just about the debt hangover from the infamous banking crisis. Belt tightening alone is not enough. Indeed it is mostly counterproductive. Anarchy is making a stylish comeback in the shape of ridicule and contempt for the efforts of Europe’s leaders to shape the new Superstate. (Even though, most citizens are still good Europeans).

In typical E.U. bureaucratic fashion none will take responsibility for the Troika’s programme’s failure. The best result austerity can claim is the case of Ireland. This is a false claim and most observers recognise this. The promissory note for the state to save private banks holding Dutch and German debt is too heavy a burden to carry in the short term. Faced with ruinous options the Irish would willingly dump the Troika in the Celtic sea and reprint its own pound. So to keep the ship afloat, the “Austerity Bed” has been softened a bit for now. 

It was summed up recently by financier George Soros, “The euro crisis has already transformed the European Union from a voluntary association of equal states into a creditor-debtor relationship from which there is no easy escape.  As a result, the crisis is now threatening to destroy the European Union.”  He went on to claim in a der Spiegel interview that Germany might consider being outside the Euro. “The situation is deteriorating and in the longer term it is bound to become unsustainable,” Mr Soros pronounced.

Wow! Is the chancellor contemplating joining the C.N.S.?  A new London - Berlin Alliance? Never!!!

Meanwhile British leader of Confederate Nation States, David Cameron, met German chancellor Angela Merkel to plan a future strategy with the US over economic re-growth. Are they making it up as they go along! Experimentation is fine as long as anarchy stays in the bottle, for stylish anarchy has its dedicated followers. But it is not as such. The march to construct pan European parties and alliances is started. More Europe, Less Europe, No Europe, Just Europe, new parties on the block, there is all to play for.   

EU Crisis: Cyprus Bailout; the Long Bank Holiday and the Great Troika Raid.

Monday 18^th – Monday 25^th March

The European Union project took a massive confidence body blow as the troika (ECB, EU, IMF Austerity Axis), launched a surprise ambush on all private deposit accounts in Cyprus Monday 18^th March. The banks remained closed for a very long week as 800,000 Cypriots planned their counter to the attack. Meanwhile the feared ECB (financial quartermaster) in Frankfurt urged the raid to speed up and complete operations before any bank run by foreign Russian clients.

So this was the start of the long bank holiday. Cyprus claimed their man was blackmailed by the troika into accepting the bizarre terms. Bizarre in the fact Brussels president Van Rumpay (one of three) declared some time back the EU would “convince the people” in the merits of fiscal and political union. “Accept our terms or your country will be bankrupt in days,” was the troika’s astounding demand.

Immediately the Cyrus parliament rejected any raid on deposits as Russian money made up the bulk of it. “Dodgy or not here I come, I’m off to Moscow to ask for more Russian money.”  The Cyprus finance minister returned empty handed. It was time to reconvene the parliament.

Chancellor Angela Merkel it emerged was officer commanding the raid. She is no longer worried about solidarity and more worried about using German tax revenue to save Russian money. (Don’t forget it is election year).

Find six billion dosh by Monday 25th or we will shut you down was the Troika’s final ultimatum. Or maybe it was her demand. Merkel is becoming more moralistic and behaving more like the true European president than the other three in Brussels. Over the second bank holiday weekend the Cypriot and troika response was to shut down bank no 2 and to inflict heavy losses on the Russian deposits. Moscow described the move as stealing and promised to be just as “Unfriendly.”

All this is very bizarre to the good European, the spectator on the wings, who, struggling with austerity is now checking the bank balance to see if all funds are still in place.

Or is it all that bizarre or surprising. Fiscal and political union between the 17 Eurozone is now a pipe dream and most observers know it. The United Kingdom broke the ultimate taboo by offering a referendum over EU membership. The next taboo is exit from the Euro either by push or goodbye. Once Russian money packs up and moves to another haven, which it will do, then Cyprus is destroyed for a decade at least.

The Eurozone is self-assessing its raison d’etre.  Federalists are hell-bent on forming some kind of block to counter what they see as an emerging globalised economic realignment. A resurgent Germany is preparing for this eventuality and leading the recruiting drive. In the case of southern members, a process of screening out is started. This same screening will turn north after the southern purge is completed. There is nothing personal, it really is just business.

EU Crisis: A Very Polite Revolution.

It’s a transfer of power. Revolution that is. Or is it uprising and rebellion.  The choice is in the means and reasons for change. 

Revolution has not always meant a good thing. But often, it happens because the status quo fails to respect the people.  Or something like that.

Europe is staring at a new revolution. A very polite Revolution. A movement void of terror from mutiny and upheaval.   Well, so far so good, as they say in the peoples’ committees.

All this talk about leaping into a United States of Europe is a bit wishy washy. Does anyone really believe Europe is best served by a commission of faceless bureaucrats dreaming up laws and rules people find ridiculous when it suits them to do so.

Recently many people have been persuaded by the Euroskeptics.   Or, have they been persuaded by the Troika Austerity Axis failure to end the financial crisis and the hardship it is causing. 

Either way, where is the recourse to correct the situation. Vote to oust the Troika…..not a choice…they are not elected….vote for the European parliament…..just a toothless talking shop….vote for a referendum to leave the Union…..run away, run away policy brings no change.

Vote for Revolution……….now there’s a thought….the reason is crystal clear and the means is democratic.

Joining the Skeptic revolution is the beginning of a credible pan European voice for change. A political opposition in the making. Less Europe versus More Europe……. Who will win the confidence of the people!

Where do we begin? Why at home of course. National parliaments should revolutionise Strasbourg and Brussels into a democratic cutting edge. Create the means to challenge More Europe for consensual change. Develop real opposing ideology seeking the same outcomes. A safer and better defined Europe. Maybe one day in the foggy distance More Europe might even become more USE.

It’s a thought for a very polite revolution. 

EU Crisis: War Continues Against the “Austerity Axis.” March of the Populists.

Italy is in upheaval. “Austerity Axis”- Brussels Berlin, Frankfurt, installed Mario Monti 15 months past to “Fix it in that country.” The result is a backlash. Enter the “Joker” and the "Grillini", a rag tag activist army of nurses, teachers, students, lawyers, engineers, bank clerks, and architects.

Italy now joins the growing anti-Federalist movements sweeping the continent. “Clean out the political stables” is the battle-cry. “Less bankers at the top, more power to the people!”

On arriving back in Brussels the technocrat former Prime Minister, who was soundly trounced at the recent polls, got a standing victory ovation from his Federalist sponsors.

Monti declared, that while he was in office, he deliberately never told Italians his austerity programme was implemented on the behalf of EU (Brussels) direct orders to do so. Not a good thing to declare at a time such as this.

It was a grave mistake to by the “Austerity Axis” to depose elected leaders in Italy and Greece during the autumn of 2011 and install puppet governments. It diluted greatly the sense of “Union.”

Austerity has failed to win confidence as a sound economic policy. Austerity has failed to elevate the Federalist leadership. Austerity has given rise to revolutionary reaction. Austerity threatens to isolate north from south. Even though Germanic economic success is glaringly obvious, consensus about EU direction is absent there also.

It is not easy to lead the pack when hunting instincts vary as much as they do.

Across the western front, populists and nationalist are marching. Netherlands, UK, Belgium, France, Spain, Greece, Denmark and Portugal are all approaching the front desk. Rebellious, they dare to confront the power, raise their bowls and demand, “Please Sir, I want some More.” 

EU Crisis: Horse Trading over Reform; It's A Default Without the Fault

Skeptic contagion spreads to Ireland. Serious debates re-examine the totality of the relationship with an EU in desperate need of reform. The latest trigger is opaque horse trading around the bizarre promissory note. This financial instrument, the first in history placed Irish citizens as guarantors of a private bank’s debts, the ill-fated Anglo-Irish Bank which went bust at the beginning of the financial crisis. This notorious note was dumped February 2013 as a promise, only to be replaced by an official debt burden for the Irish people.

New government bonds? They will never ever be repaid in the eyes of the Irish people. In short, it’s a default without the fault.

Brussels EU institutions and the ECB (European Central Bank) Frankfurt, arm twisted the government of the day into issuing a promise the Irish state would honour Anglo’s debts claiming the bank’s failure, if allowed to go unsupported, would have catastrophic effects for the Eurozone, greater than that felt by the 2008 Lehman Bros debacle. This allowed the bank’s creditors to escape unscathed courtesy of the ECB. The return deal for the Irish in being “Good Europeans” was to treat this case as special.

The ECB is now cornering Cyprus for a bailout. Bailouts make money for banks and isn’t that the name of the game. “Bailouts,” hmmm, they are not really the same as investment for forward planning.

However, this epoch of banking dinosaurs is being confronted.  “Too big to fail” is no longer a fait accompli, no longer the emperor of the jungle. “Too big to fail” is being hunted and located to be cut down to size by those who manage society.  

As EU reform starts in earnest it will not be difficult to paint financial and bureaucratic intuitions as self-serving, greedy and treating citizens as permanent cash cows.  Being a “Good European,” only works if one feels good in Europe. 

EU Crisis: British Respond With Referendum. People Will Have Their Say.

British PM David Cameron opened the long awaited debate about the UK’s future relationship with the European Union. In effect Europe is now a British election issue. The crisis which began as a banking problem, moving to a Euro currency problem, is now a constitutional debate on whether there will be enough appropriate Brussels reforms by 2017 when a referendum will offer the electorate a direct IN or OUT vote.

It’s a five year plan to shape a bureaucratic, democratically deficient Brussels sliding towards total disconnection with European citizens into an institution acceptable to British democracy.

Confederate nation states, led by Britain are poised to shape the course of European direction.  An era of faceless Brussels dictate is being challenged.  The option are clear “Not just change for Britain but change for Europe…..we have a choice, turn away or lead the change necessary to bring us together.”   (British PM)

Use of the financial crisis to steamroll Europe towards a political union without consulting citizens will be stalled by this referendum pledge. Some are angry with the UK saying “You can’t come to a football match and expect to play rugby.” And “Europe is an idea and not just about trade.” One former EU commissioner expressed a view that the debate will be acrimonious and that it is wrong to consult the people.

However, some  European ideas have not always worked out, mainly due to obsessions to rush headlong into undefined destinations.  The European project, until now, secured the confidence of nations that its existence was entirely a co-operative peace mission.  Fixation to force an unapproved agenda on citizens means confidence no longer exists in many countries.

Without the UK pressing for reform, Europe’s counter balances to prevent current Brussels dilution of the democratic process would be much weaker.   In reality the British have introduced the shock of the new normal. Democracy and accountability is not retractable to further Federalist ambitions.

The big question is whether reforms will happen to allow the UK to participate comfortably. Or, whether Brussels will resist and simply ask the Brits to vote again and again till they get it right. We have five years to find out.

EU Crisis: Federalist Europe Launches First Salvo In Battle For Britain

The British P.M. (it is claimed) is at the centre of Superstate's future. If UK goes to referendum and the outcome is a new beginning, then such circumstance will consign the European Union to history and commence another chapter in Europe's rich, troubled and remarkable history.

EU fixer and president of the council, the feeble Herman van Rompuy, proclaimed to the Guardian newspaper that David Cameron's quest to find new accommodation for Britain could cause immense damage and unravel the whole European Union. That to cherry pick which laws to submit to is to undermine the Union.

But is it not Brussels which cherry picks the salami sliced route to Art of Superstate, often behind closed doors and beyond public view. The British will never go for this and soon others will follow. In fact some are already there. Brussels strategy towards unconditional federalism is flawed, damaging and does not inspire confidence.

This declaration of an undemocratic “Fait Accompli”  will hardly win praise from the nationalist and patriotic fronts.

A leading UK diplomat and some officials working in the Brussels Bubble is warning any British attempt to disentangle itself from the EU would generate great bitterness and recrimination. The separation would not be amicable. It would be an extremely messy divorce. Britain would be more isolated and weaker. It would be completely crazy. The disposition for being friendly to the UK would be about zero. It's pretty much at about zero already.

It is exactly this forcing hand which is increasing Skeptic rank and file supporters.

Wolfgang Schäuble, one of Europe's most powerful politicians, said Britain would be shooting itself in the foot if it terminated its European membership. British departure would “See a friend walk off into the desert.”

This German finance minister greatly underestimates the muscle of an Atlantic swell.

Cameron is expected to deliver a speech on Britain future in Europe within weeks. It is being billed as the most important and fateful of his premiership as polls now show skeptics passing the 51% mark in favour to exit the EU.

In reality there can be no Art of Superstate, no Dimension, no New Europe. The Federalists in Brussels and Berlin can not hope to turn the rising tide of mistrust and doubt in time for a UK referendum. There is hardly any of the 27 who wish to donate further powers to a discredited E.U. commission. For Euroskeptics the commission is discredited in purpose and existence with feelings running deeper and deeper to the point of never again.

Oh how hard it is to watch the pride before the fall. Yet, 2013 may still give some credibility to the Mayan prophesy of a catalytic change.

UN Palestine vote exposes Israel's God Delusion:

It is time to tell humans none was or ever will be chosen by God or any other make believe. What we do, we do ourselves and for this we take responsibility. Israel's hawkish response to the world's acceptance for Palestinian statehood can only be seen as a vengeful act. The kind one hears about in the Bible. The Jerusalem government announced in response to the vote the planned expansion of settlements to effectively cut off East Jerusalem from the West Bank.

In medieval terms this would amount to the third holiest shrine in Islam coming under the complete control of a foreign religion. Even God could not withstand the wrath of anger which would be unleashed if that project were to be fulfilled. Well I advise not to expect any heavenly assistance other than ridicule at the notion God has more power than an Iranian Shahed-129 missile capable of hitting Tel Aviv. Or the 40'000 Hezbollah rockets to the north and the Hamas ones to the south.

So is this just a symbolic gesture. A show of defiance before an up-coming election. A prayer to God for assistance or the beginning of an endgame. You see having a vote in the UN is meaningless. We all know this. But to have the power to drag Israel before the International Criminal Court is meaningful.

Jewish settlements are considered illegal under international law. Building 3000 new ones to annex East Jerusalem would easily see its way to the Hague. If Israel defies international law then so can everyone else including Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. New tough boys on the block.

Actually this move by president Abbas may not be checkmate but is certainly check. Only three notable countries opposed the motion, US Canada & Czech republic. Some have suggested in the past that Israel be moved to the US Canada border where there is plenty of land. This can be plan B in the event of all-out war. Meantime it might be better to move Israeli politics towards a new reality that acceptance and respect is a two way thing if it is to work properly.

EU Crisis: Brussels Now a Major Problem to European Unity

Europe has come as far as it can go before entering familiar murky waters of forced-fed union. Fear about the future is on present debating cards. The Greece saga epitomises this fear to take proper decisions leaving citizens wondering what's it all about. On one hand there is Germany wanting to develop its full potential but worried about what the neighbours might think. On the other hand there are those in Brussels who want jump into dark waters but haven't a clue how to swim in it. The Brits are cautious and of course the French are just being French. All in all, there needs to be new universal forums around much needed Brussels reform and to clarify what modern Europe means to its citizens and what is expected of it. The Brussels approach in peddling fear of the past as a means to its own federalist ends just hardens resolve to ask “Why do we need you when you are the problem.”

With the exception of those formed to counter external threats, experiments in force-fed empires, large and small, have been violent and short lived. The successful Roman, Celtic, Carolingian, Hapsburg, Ottoman have been European civilisation its self. Their success being the history, lives and culture of citizens, their societies and the nation states they created from those times.

Contemporary Euro federalists and other Brussels institutions don't fit into a category of society building. And everyone, except themselves, know it. They follow hollow dreams which have no real support. They have no credible response to European suspicion about uncertain directions offered by incompetent bureaucrats. Yugoslavia is a good example of their moral desertion to citizens in need of help. Until Europe puts enough distance between its recent clashes of financial and military competition, the best it can hope for is joint management of the continent.

The British are right to question Brussels credentials, but wrong to jump ship. They are much needed to lead the EU reformists group. A group on the rise and the best group to rethink a new structure for Europe. Most of Europe is a wonderful place to visit, enjoy and live in. It deserves a chance to model its destiny for a future role on the world stage. What is More Europe at present, but a bickering, back-biting, backstabbing ritual between Brussels institutions. News to open the "House of European History" with a start date of 1946 to celebrate historical memory and awareness of European identity is proof enough. Brussels cannot agree on European history prior to this date. Skepticism is not Europe's enemy, forced-fed federalism is.

EU Crisis. United in Protest. Austerity is Non Grata

Austerity is declared non grata by the people. United in Diversity is now United in Protest. Europe has had enough of Brussels, its incompetence, its greed. Taboos are being smashed at the doors of Commission H.Q. on the Rue Archimede as protests stretch across 23 countries

From Madrid to Athens, Paris to Rome, Europeans are coming together. Swaths of society are no longer willing to lay down before the beast of burden.

Is it too soon to proclaim the Commission “Enemy of the People.”

Their crisis performance is dismal, inexperienced and most alarmingly devoid of any real responsibility for their failing actions. They simply are looking after jack and play the same old trick. Not me, didn't do it, wasn't there.

Again for the 18^th year in a row, auditors failed to sign off the EU budget. This year it was 112 billion Euros. “E.U. Financial management is not yet up to standard,” the auditors bemoaned.

Elected and democratic officials are alarmed at the growing sums of unaccountable funds from the E.U publicly funded purse. Brussels style is showing disrespect towards their fellow citizens. Yet for these people life's pretty honky dory down on Eurocracy Road. And what's more, the unemployed, the impoverished, the humiliated see this comfortable lifestyle and are not impressed.

Twenty three thousand staff support 27 commissioners in Brussels of whom hardly one commissioner is known to the average citizen in the union. But what citizens now know, is where to find the policy makers who introduced pain and wrecked people's dreams in order to save private banks.

Predictions are claiming austerity has hardly arrived in Europe and that it will be around for several years. It is a massive gamble to assume the outcome will be a forgiving Europe huddling together as one happy Superstate.   

EU Crisis: More Europe: What it Stands For. Eurocracy.

The EU (Commission) is now democratically unsustainable. Financial austerity imposed on sinner states Greece, Portugal, Ireland and Spain has led to genuine hardship, social unrest and a rethink about the pursuit of the European federalist dream.

Brussels demands extra money from cash strapped taxpayers to fund "More Europe" provoking an open think process about what exactly is the meaning of "More Europe." Many see "More Europe" as additional funding to the already lavish gravy train lifestyle enjoyed by a greedy elitist group who have little or no allegiance to Europe's citizens. People who sit around Brussels dreaming up ways to enhance their Federalist goals which most in Europe now regard as a dead ambition.

Recently in Berlin, UK foreign secretary warned, "People feel that in too many ways the EU is something that is done to them, not something over which they have a say. People feel the EU is a one-way process, a great machine that sucks up decision-making from national parliaments to the European level until everything is decided by the EU."

When told there would be opposition to increasing their budgets “More Europe” employees took to protesting. They concluded "We demand that member states have the courage to tell their citizens that a reduction in the European budget would have, for all them, a higher cost, the cost of no Europe, or the cost of less Europe."

What does that mean exactly. Less Brussels bureaucracy, less meddling in people's lives, less obnoxious sneering at the notion of nations rights to self determination. Or less super stars manning the watchtower against the pending doom facing Europe if citizens refuse Brussels demands for "More Europe."    

The United Kingdom is a new champion in curtailing the excess of the Babylonian Tribe of Dreams. It has told More Europe "British voters are gloomy about the future of the EU. It is clearer and clearer that the people of this country want out of the European Union. That public disillusionment with the EU in Britain is the deepest it has ever been. And, that it may make the whole EU institution democratically unsustainable in the UK."

You see "More Europe" is not now regarded as being about safeguarding Europeans. It has become the will of a Brussels colossus to feed its growing appetite for power and glory to spend citizens money and to be well rewarded in doing so. It is a question over whether those whom they instruct to embrace austerity are becoming serfs and wage slaves to unpopular Eurocracy and banking plutocracy. Who plays who in this game. Maybe it was just a bad week to ask the bosses for a wage rise.

American Election 2012: Tales of Two Americas

This weeks US presidential election confirmed the thoughts of many thinkers. America's party system is declining faster than anyone believed. Political polarisation and bitterness is dragging the US back to mid 19^th century. Issues are not about slavery or economic self interest but a systemic crisis which challenges every major revolutionary period. With this Democratic election victory, an existential split in US society is cemented between those who seize progress with social change and those afraid to grasp a reality that to stay in the past, is to be lost there forever.

Against today's backdrop of a worst recession since the great depression, by any book, the Grand Old Party (GOP) should have won over the President. It was there for the taking. The presidents men knew this. In a carefully planned campaign they simply underscored the obvious. America's future is no longer white and fundamentalist. America has reignited its original multi-cultural roots for renewed global status. Democrats know the Republican party can only enter into terminal decline as post election reaction in that party swings more and more towards Christian fundamentalism and certain death.

Lets face it; who in their right mind wants to follow a Mormon President. Mitt Romney is not just a church member in name like most people today. No, he is a disciple and a preacher. That means he believes in some of the most incredible, far fetching notions ever served up to mankind in the form of an organised religion. A cocktail of bewildering fantasy which makes Star Trek and Harry Potter look a slow day in parliament.

America is divided. But one side has a future while the other is consigned to fade and wither over time. As the current Republican party dies from old age, Democrats grow with youth and modernity.

You will never hear a Republican president speak ever again “God Bless America” and actually believe in it.   

EU Crisis: Division, Suspicion, Mistrust, Why Don't You Leave

It is a sad fact that the EU is breaking down under the strain of bad leadership. There is no one person or country to blame but rather the obsession in quarters of the Troika bureaucratic monster to take total control over European destiny. Federalism has been told time and time again that it is not welcome and time and time again Federalists respond with arrogance, denial and condescending remarks that they know better.

has declared bi lingual burger flippers

unfit to work for the Brussels gravy train.

This month a bewildering choice by the Oslo peace committee to award the EU (read; leg up for EU Federalism) was met with an almost universal shaking of heads. As one German lady remarked “What did they get it for? Straight Bananas.”   

Eurozone leaderships pays humble homage to the Troika "dogs of financial terror."  IMF, E.U. commission, E.C.B. If this is how they treat their own then how will they behave if and when they get their sought after European army. They now demand a financial overlord to dictate national budgets. It will be just all figures and to hell with social order. Art of Superstate needs a clean out. This current EU is just plain fickle and the Federalist plan just plain dangerous to follow.

As one of the "dogs of financial terror," ECB's Mario Draghi, recently declared to the press,

"Countries will have to transfer part of their sovereignty to the European level. (Troika). Several governments have not yet fully understood that they lost their national sovereignty long ago when they ran up huge debts. They are now dependent on the goodwill of the financial markets," the "financial terror chief" said.

Meantime Brussels foot soldiers are clamouring for rises to their budgets and huge salaries, to be paid for by those they force to belt tighten.

An EU Commission official politely put it, "Because of language requirements, we are better educated than national civil servants. We're high fliers not burger flippers."

However the fight to save democracy  is still on. Some countries such as the UK are planning their escape. Others are pondering over the course the EU is heading and whether it is dragging Europe apart.

Since the new age of democracy it has been understood citizens shall chose who governs them.

 "Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of democracy are not presidents, senators or government officials, but voters.” Franklin D Roosevelt 1938.

Technocrats and plutocrats may scoff at this as idealistic fantasy but they too should remember that regime change is also at the hand of the Mob. 

EU Crisis: Nobel Sides With E.U. A Prize Too Far or Clever Thinking.

Naming the European Union winner of the Nobel peace prize 2012 gives much need moral boost to Brussels Federalists. The prize was awarded on the basis of past work to establish peace after the horrors of European civil wars. Most of this sterling work was prior to forming the EU in 1993. It is right and fitting leaders of post war Europe are honoured for their fantastic efforts. Europeans are grateful. But alas this prize was not given to Europe but to the European Union, which in the eyes of the majority of its citizens, is now but a pseudonym for bureaucratic Federalist institutions based in Brussels. Institutions perceived as dividing not uniting, punishing not helping and most of all detached and devoid of anchors to present reality.

Whom of the internally appointed presidents will rush to Oslo to claim the laurel. No doubt all three will want to go and produce a mistake on a colossal scale.

In the midst of unpopular technocrats, a harmful crisis some refer to as “financial war” and waning trust in the purpose of the European project, non federalist will interpret the award as very bad timing and taking sides in an effort to shore up fledgling Brussels reputations.

It is noble to applaud past achievements. It is toxic to side with failure. For it is under the watch of the current three Brussels presidents that Europe is vastly divided in hearts and minds over whether Citizens should follow them any further.

If these presidents have any sense of strategy left they should renounce any attempt to make political capital for the federalist cause and allow all Europeans to win a sense of thought over why the board made their choice. It would be bitter irony, if on December 10^th, would be Emperors were in Oslo collecting a peace prize while nations were being racked by civil strife and fire from Athens to Madrid. A situation some incorrectly regard as a creation of Federalists policy.  

EU Crisis: Resistance to Brussels Rule Spreads Through Europe

What began as lone voices of dissent against Art of Superstate some decades past, has become a contagion of resistance sweeping across Europe.

As nights grow shorter, so does patience within national states towards Brussels Federalists. UK clamours an opportunity to cast a decisive vote on EU membership. Greece continues to tilt at the edge of chaos. Spain mulls over its existence as a unitary state. France is exposed as a fearful weak link in the status quo. And even Germania Magna sees real danger ahead.

Still Brussels Federalists sing lofty songs about union and dreamy futures. Can they be so right. Can they be so far sighted. This October 2012, the Irish Dail (parliament) hosted a new leader from the European parliament lauding desires for more and more solidarity. Solidarity, to no surprise, was clearly just not there.

Your nation's tumultuous history, marked by many highs and lows, is the embodiment of the European experience. Ireland has lived through so much of the European experience......

But it's easy to be pro-European when times are good. - true commitment is proven when times get tough.

The biggest risk for Europe is the lack of mutual trust. Democracy lives when people know that they can take decisions about their lives.... We elected politicians are called upon to win back their trust!

Ladies and gentlemen, please allow me to say some words on a trend that is worrying me deeply. Times such as these, times of crises are always times of the executive. (read: EU IMF ECB bureaucrats, autocrats & technocrats).

Parliaments are increasingly seen as an annoying waste of time - they are not! Parliaments are the guarantors of democracy. We together have to ward off attempts by the executive to curtail the key prerogative of parliaments: the right to adopt a budget.

Today, in Europe we are all in the same boat. Either we all sail together or we all sink separately. Solidarity is in all our best interest. From the crisis we have learned that we need more European cooperation.

Jose Manuel Barroso in his “State of the Union” address to the European Parliament several weeks ago confirmed that a federal Europe is the ultimate goal of the EU Commission.

We in our party (Sinn Fein) have consistently raised concerns in previous referendum campaigns that Irish sovereignty was being undermined and that we were being pushed toward a federal Europe.

The Irish people have never even been consulted on this. We talk about the democratic deficit. The people of this state, the people of this island, have never been consulted on that issue

So, I welcome very much your comments about the need for greater democratisation of EU institutions but there needs to be a recognition in Brussels there is no mandate and there is no popular will in this state for a European super state – a United States of Europe.

EU Crisis: Funny Money Is Back In the Ring For A Bad Joke.

Validity and trust in the European project continues to evaporate, while the Euro project steers divisions towards 19^th Century levels. Can today's leaders claim they are doing sterling work.

Spain is on the brink of sliding to serious civil disorder not seen since the days of Franco. The response from the northern core countries, (Germany, Finland, Netherlands) is to protect their bankers and loans. Solidarity is all but an empty word. Europe is sliding backwards.

Anger and resentment is sadly mounting against the European project. Forced bailouts on proud nations are interpreted as fiscal imperialism. “Give me control of a nation's money supply and I care not who makes it's laws” said Mayer Amschel Rothschild, the original illuminate banker in the 18^th century. Each day new banking scandals disclose sheer arrogance surrounding this industry. Taxpayers are forced to fund iconic towers to banking dominance in Frankfurt, while remitting citizens to financial serfdom in parts of Europe.

It's a race for bankers to get rich and richer, at all costs. We, as a society, need to be increasingly vigilant. Bankers cheat and swindle. Politicians fib. Corporations exploit. But it is society which determines outcomes, eventually. And, most often, violently. Europe needs to communicate with its citizens and recognise citizens will protect their turf and democracy also at all costs. Brussels has not proved a leadership of merit, as this crisis has shown. Its seeking more and more powers, as an excuse to do better, will not cut it with most young or older voters.

There is no such thing as a European Nation regardless of comical ideological dreams in Brussels. Collaboration between Confederate Nations of Europe is as good as it gets for now and the foreseeable future as a tale of crisis rumbles on and on. 

End of Dimension, Art of Superstate: The Long Euro Struggle to Continue.

This is the week it all changed. The week when finally the pursuit of a European Superstate was denied. The week when Europe split into those federalists who lost the debate for unconditional Unity of Europe and those who hear citizens protests demanding protection for their traditional identity and culture over a half baked notion to Europeanise 27 distinct countries.

The Brussels commissioner performed a chameleon act to placate steam rolling populist calls to degrade the European Union. Barroso calls for a Federation of Nation States, not a Superstate. Who will follow these people often labelled as arrogant, inward thinking and who ignored warning signals for so long.

The break-up has begun. Europe is to develop organically as it has always done and will be. Observers do not believe Barroso and other Federalists have abandoned their goal for Superstate. They wait for better times and for the people to come to their senses. Brussels for now is a capital for a “Tribe of Dreams.”

The commission president stated in a State of the Union address, “Today I call for a federation of nation states. Not a superstate. …...A decisive deal for Europe– to project our values, our freedom and our prosperity into the future of a globalist world. This decisive deal would maintain the integrity of the Union and show the irreversibility of the Euro. A deal that requires the completion of a deep and genuine economic union, based on a political union.”

"We must use the 2014 election to mobilise all pro-European forces. We must not allow the populists and the nationalists to set a negative agenda. We need no more walls dividing us! We will start from the principle that deeper integration will not be just for some. No one will be forced to come along. And no one will be forced to stay out.”

It is precisely this style of contradictory language which fed the chambers of Euroskeptics blasting the argument for more Europeanisation. In other words this speech is just another rant for the ”Tribe of Dreams” towards a direction not all wish to take.

Whatever secret deals are done behind closed doors in Luxembourg and Brussels, the game is still the same. Brussels hopes for a return to Art of Superstate while nations states work to rescue the Euro and build a Confederate Nations of Europe. Brussels is saying anything to be heard. And the response. More skepticism. 

EU Crisis: The Euro Gale Surges Higher and Higher

The Euro situation in Europe is firmly political, with roots in the reunification of Germany in 1990, a year after the fall of the Berlin Wall. It is claimed France insisted on currency union (Euro) for its approval to that event and that everyone, including France, knew they were putting the cart before the horse. This trade off is still denied in certain German political circles.

Today's Europe questions the doctrine of closer political and currency union in the face of skepticism to Brussels’s dictatorial approaches to sell them a Superstate. Citizens see social- political changes happening organically for Europe's sovereign nations since the end of the Cold War. Brussels's has lost the use of war paranoia to further the Federalist cause.

Reality is different as citizens look to protect what they have

It only takes a child to cry “the Emperor has no clothes” for people to join and applaud the obvious. The long held EU dogma, Europe's destiny lies in political and currency union, is no longer sacrament amongst nation states. Across the continent intellectuals are preparing for a redefined European Union where old taboos about loyalty to the project are questioned and redrawn.

Was France right to put the cart before the horse in 1989 knowing we would reach this discussion point eventually over currency and political union. Was this just luck or far sighted good judgement by François Mitterrand . In other words, was the Euro and the Euro zone just a tool to create a stable democratic Germany.

How hard will Chancellor Angela Merkel's calls for closer European Unity, which Helmut Kohl had proposed back in 1989, fall on the ears of today's France given that Germany is no longer a military threat and one of Europe's strongest democracies. What can Chancellor Merkel gain by such calls over universal doubts (including German) to such moves. Does she provoke a clear rejection by the nation states so the Euro can be put to sleep and a new phase in Europe's journey be awakened.

Politicians are increasingly dividing over Europe's direction. Former EU commissioner and technocrat leader of Italy Mario Monti declared "There are many manifestations of populism that are aimed at disunity in nearly all the member states." While Spain's former premier Jose Maria Aznar believes “It is a very serious mistake to try to destroy the nation states. You cannot go against the cultural beliefs of the people and the forces of history. A United States of Europe is an impossible idea." 

What is certain is the EU is no longer the golden dream of Europe's citizens. Nationalism is back in favour and any future federation clearly uncertain. The Brussels Bubble is now perceived by millions as a Brussels Circus.
